Scout had his quarterly visit today. Dr. E was out, so he saw Dr. C. instead. He was really hungry this morning, and let us know all the way to the vet how unhappy he was to be in his carrier and in the car. After waiting a few minutes, they took us in the back, and the nurse took Scout to the exam room in the very back. He wasn't very vocal until the very end, and was returned to us soon after. Dr. C. told us that Scout has gained weight (he's up to 13.75 from 13 in June) and was actually very cooperative in the back. She told us that she heard a heart murmur, and then went into a long descriptive lesson on the three different types of heart murmurs and how easy/difficult each is to treat. If she had let us get a word in edgewise, we could have saved her a lot of words, since he's had a "heart murmur" before. When we began this journey with Scout in January 2008, the internist thought she heard a heart murmur, and when they did a heart echo, they didn't find anything. Since heart murmurs can show up when a kitty is under stress or upset, and he's had one of those false alarms before, we decided against another echo. In his bloodwork, his BUN was up a little at 42 (it was 38 in June), but since he has had a history of elevated BUN, it is not a cause for concern. So he got a green light for continuted treatment and will go back in December for his next check-up.
But he's not worried at all:
